The Wizard: Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I use The Wizard?
Answer
It is easy! The questions are designed to help The Wizard assess which of the options available under the VetStrategy Benefits & Savings Program are best suited to your needs.
Click Get Started, then go with the flow! No need to keep track of your answers – these will be summarized for your review before you click through to the Suggestions screen. Want to change one (or many) of your responses? Click Start again to begin again or click the Previous button to get to the screen you need, update your answer, and carry on! It really is that simple.
- Why can The Wizard not recommend the best option for me (and my family) based on my answers?
Answer
The Wizard uses your responses to suggest options, but benefits decisions often involve personal details that only you know. For example, you might already have coverage through a spouse or partner’s plan and believe that their health coverage is sufficient. Alternatively, you may want additional coverage to supplement what you already have.
Because there are many possible scenarios, The Wizard provides two suggestions to guide you. Some choices will be straightforward, while others may require you to compare coverage and costs to ensure the recommendations meet your needs. - Can I save my answers and the suggestions?
Answer
The Wizard does not save your answers, or resulting suggestions, so feel free to print both the summary and suggestions pages.
- What if I am not sure who I want to cover under the program?
Answer
That is no problem. You might want to choose Single the first time you use The Wizard, then choose Family the next time, and see if the suggested coverage options are the same or similar, all other things being equal.
- I cannot predict what might happen in the coming year, so how can I answer the questions within this tool?
Answer
Great question! It is truly impossible to predict, well, the unpredictable. The best you can do is make as informed a decision as possible, taking into consideration the things that are a certainty and including information that is likely to hold true for the coming year.
For example, you know your dependant is going to need braces this coming year (that is a certainty), and also feel that the past year was typical in terms of the number of prescriptions you needed (comparing it, perhaps, to past years), making you fairly confident that next year will be the same.
Using past experience and current needs can enable you to make as informed a decision as possible regarding your choices.
- How can my past claims experience help guide my benefits decisions for the upcoming year?
Answer
Examining the claims you submitted over the past year or two can help you understand how often you use prescription drugs and eligible health care services, as well as how much you spend on them.
You can easily review your claims history at any time.
- Consider the Following:
- Review more than just the past year to determine if your use of the benefits program has been consistent year over year.
- Ask yourself whether the claims you submitted are typical and align with your health needs and approach to wellbeing.
- Do you anticipate submitting eligible claims in a similar pattern this year? For example, the same types of claims, the same frequency of visits, and the same prescription drugs.
- Do you expect that you will need more or less coverage this year because you know your previous claim pattern was atypical?
- Consider the Following:
- What if I do not agree with the suggestions provided by The Wizard?
Answer
The Wizard’s suggestions are based solely on the responses you provide when answering the questions.
Please keep in mind that these questions are designed to offer guidance that meets the needs of the general population. They are not exhaustive. Only you know your specific health, wellbeing, and savings needs, based on your personal history, anticipated factors for the coming year, and your unique situation.
If you believe that other options may be more suitable for your needs than those suggested, review the Benefits at a Glance (BAAG) and explore different choices. You can also use the enrolment website to compare costs and see the impact of selecting alternative options.
- Why detailed coverage information is not included on the Suggestions page?
Answer
To keep The Wizard straightforward and easy to use, only the major coverage categories are displayed under each benefit. Including all details on one screen would make the page cluttered and difficult to navigate.
For complete and detailed coverage information, your best resource is the Benefits at a Glance (BAAG).

- Do I need to log out of The Wizard when I am done?
Answer
No, you do not need to log out. The Wizard does not store any personal information or data. Simply close your browser window when you are done.
